"This is a "must" if you are in the beautiful area of Romney, West Virginia. The charm and elegance of Hampshire House makes for a calm and restful retreat from your travels or the many available local activities. The historical aspect of the house is an education in itself. The furniture and other decor items are truly beautiful and much is original to the home. Ask for a peek at the Lamplighter Room; the suite with the immense walnut armoire is noteworthy. The capable staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional; breakfast is always excellent with the freshest fruit I have had anywhere. "Our breakfast this morning was delicious. Unlike many B&Bs, Dana gives you the choice of breakfast time as late as 10am (which we loved, because we are not early risers). This morning, Dana made me an omelet with toast, juice, tea, and fruit. My fiance had eggs Benedict and fruit, juice, and coffee. Overall, we're having a great experience and would return. Last night, Dana hosted a rehearsal dinner. We ran into her at night and she offered us some great desserts - peach cobbler with ice cream and flourless chocolate cake. Very nice of her. "We spent two weeks in beautiful West Virginia property-hunting. Hampshire House 1884 is immaculately maintained by Dana. The place is fully furnished in antiques and very comfortable. She is a great girl and a superb chef. Breakfast is a real treat. Whatever we needed, she obliged. The big bonus for us was free wireless internet at the B+B. The gardens are small, but nice and relaxing after a day's driving. We were downstairs in the Lamplighter room. This was not one of the larger rooms, but we had a wonderfully comfy antique queen sized bed and our own bathroom with tub and shower. "My wife and I recently stayed at the The Hampshire House 1884, and were very pleased with our overall experience. We came to the area to do some canoeing on the South Branch of the Potomac and to ride the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railway. Both our time on the river and the train experience were fantastic, and we were happy to return each night to our comfortable room at the Hampshire House. This B&B is charming and clean, with some beautiful antique furniture pieces in every room. We stayed in the Rebecca room which features only a full sized bed, but as a couple looking for a romantic getaway, the coziness was actually a plus. "Dana and her Staff were outstanding and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. She let us check in a day early and even offered us a wonderful evening meal which we did not request ahead, but thoroughly enjoyed. The rooms are very clean and the antiques are displayed beautifully. Dana is a outstanding host and cook. Her prices are very reasonable considering the service and hospitality you receive. "When I ordered our train tickets for the Potomac Eagle, the clerk recommended a couple of motels and then she told me about the Hampshire House. I immediately looked at the Hampshire House web site. Talk about love at first site!! I called everyone and informed them I had found the perfect place to stay!! After talking to Dana, I couldn't wait for October 4 to come!! We chose to stay in the Lamplighter room. How beautiful!! The entire B&B was everything we imagined and more so. I can't wait to come back. When checking out (probably 10 lbs. heavier, but happy), I commented to Dana that the food, accommodations, and atmosphere was rated at the top of my favorite places to stay. We felt like we were part of the family but the B&B was equal to the "Greenbrier". "We spent a Saturday night at the Hampshire House 1884 Inn on 10/25/08, after spending the day riding the Potomac Eagle train through the WV mountains, enjoying the fall foliage. This stay was for our wedding anniversary weekend, and we had pre-selected and reserved a dinner at the Inn prior to our arrival. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was excellent, but the service was even better. The staff was very friendly, kind and considerate. The Inn is very tastefully decorated to give an antique feel, yet the decor was not overbearing or overly busy. The Inn is in a very quiet, yet in-town location, and the grounds are also well-maintained and tastefully decorated. Overall, the HH 1884 Inn has been our best B&B experience so far, and I highly recommend it to anyone.
